Fleet:

MEFS is proud of its small but well-maintained fleet which currently has a Victa Airtourer 150 and a Piper Cherokee (PA28-140). The Victa Airtourer with its all metal compact design stands up well to the rigours of aeroclub training. This strength, coupled with its bubble canopy make it a sheer flying pleasure machine. Being a single column model, the design reduces complexity of linkages, lessening free-play and friction resulting in light control forces. Alongside, its spade grip allows the instructor to monitor student's input without interference. Its 150 hp engine and constant speed propeller prove a good combination to cruise cross-country at 120 kts.

The second workhorse – the Piper Cherokee  PA 28 is a four seater and perfect for training purposes. It remains a firm favourite for PPL students and hirers alike.

Further, MEFS is currently taking delivery of a Tecnam P2006 twin engine, a fabulous multi-engine trainer with around a 145 kts cruise speed. The 2006T clearly boasts of the highest ceiling and climb speed among its competitors. Its dependable twin-engine configuration allows it to be flown over long distances and in areas where ground facilities are poor.

Joining it in the future will be the Tecnam P2008, the first model to utilise both carbon fibre and metal, which provides optimised aerodynamics and reliability. A high-performance LSA, it provides an awesome training experience. MEFS is also investing in a RedBird Simulator, fully approved by the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority for instrument training on both multi-engine and single engine modes.
